The first step and priority of faith is loving the Lord by accepting Christ as your personal Savior and becoming a Christian. When we truly love God with everything we have, we will worship Him and really LIVE ! As we love God and worship Him, we should also develop a Christ-like love for others and desire to fellowship with other Christians. Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment of all ...
"And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all they strength, and with all thy mind, and thy neighbor as thyself." (Luke 10:27)
The primary way to show our love to God with all our heart is through worship, and the best way to show our love to others is through fellowship.
LOVE GOD : WORSHIP
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength : this is the first commandment.
At Valley Forge, we emphasize worship as the most important purpose of our faith and give believers opportunities to love God through worship and special services.
SUNDAY : (10:45am & 6:00pm) We gather as a congregation in the sanctuary to worship God through prayer, praise, giving, teaching, and preaching.
WEDNESDAY : (7:00pm) Those not enrolled in Youth Church or Ministry U Bible Studies gather as a congregation in the sanctuary to worship God through prayer, praise, giving, teaching, and preaching.
SPECIAL SERVICES : We have many other worship opportunities throughout the year including 4th Sunday Youth Night (monthly), 5th Sunday Singing (quarterly), Singers, dramas, and more including ...
BAPTISM : Those accepting Christ as their Savior are immersed in water or baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, in which are represented the burial and resurrection of Christ, the death of Christians to the world, the washing of their souls from the pollution of sin, their rising to a new life, the commitment to follow Christ, and their resurrection. Those who want to follow Christ in "believers baptism" should talk with one of our pastors. They will go over the meaning of Baptism, schedule the service, and orient the candidate with the baptistery area. We offer baptisms in the baptistery (located in the Sanctuary) or the Church has a river baptism area nearby.
CHILD DEDICATION : Parents and families can dedicate children to God. This is a time when the parents thank God for their child and symbolically surrender ownership to Him. The timing of the dedication is up to the parents and advanced notice to the Pastor is appreciated. The family is called to the front of the Church, a charge is given by the Pastor, and a prayer of dedication is prayed. You can discuss and schedule child dedications with the Pastor.
COMMUNION : “The Lord’s Supper” is given four times per year and is a time of remembering the death of Jesus Christ as the payment for our sins. We share the bread which is symbolic of His broken body. We share a cup (filled with grape juice) symbolic of the blood which was shed for the remission of our sins. After the “Lord’s Supper”, there is an prerogative / opportunity to participate in the “washing of the saint’s feet”. Jesus, our “example” of humility said those who do this with a servant’s heart will be happy.
FUNERALS : We honor faithful members and attendee’s by ministering to their families during times of bereavement. A meal is prepared by the Church and served to the family and tributes or memorials are sent to the family. Church facilities are available for funeral services of Church members and faithful attendees.
MEMBERSHIP : The requirements for Church membership are ...
- SAVED: a profession of faith in Jesus Christ or salvation experience.
- BAPTISM: by immersion in water. We do not require an additional baptism if you are satisfied with a previous baptism experience.
- SIX MONTH REGULAR ATTENDANCE: Candidates must attend at least one service a week (average) for at least six months. This “watch period” should be a time of “getting to know the Church” and the Church “getting to know you”.
- CONFERENCE WITH LEADERSHIP: A meeting with a Pastor and/or Deacons for an orientation and Church overview, review of the Church Covenant, and general information exchange.
- CHURCH COVENANT: Agreement to use the Church Covenant as their pledge to do all they can to help the Church and not do anything that would hurt the cause of Christ.
- RECOMMENDATION: The Pastor and/or Deacons recommend the candidate to the Church during a regular service.
- VOTE OF MEMBERSHIP: A special business session is called during a service and the candidate is voted on by the membership present. The candidate is received as a member upon a majority vote of the membership present.
WEDDINGS : All weddings must be between a man and woman, be Christian or religious in nature, and be approved by the Pastor. Members and regular attendees are allowed to use the facilities for weddings at no charge. Non-members or those not regularly attending must be approved by the Pastor and be charged for using the facilities.
LOVE OTHERS - FELLOWSHIP
Mark 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thous shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
At Valley Forge, we encourage loving others or fellowship as a vital part of our faith. We ask that people forget about their own agendas, opinions, and differences and come to Church with a spirit of unity and agree that Jesus loved and forgave us so we can love and forgive others. Even though we enjoy a “sweet spirit” of fellowship during worship services, the large Church feel is significantly reduced when we connect in a smaller group of believers in a class or life group. If you only attend worship services, you will miss out on the wonderful opportunity to develop friendships, find encouragement, and grow in your faith with other Christians. The best way to fellowship at Valley Forge is to connect in with our Classes (Small Groups) and Life Groups.
